The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games may still be a few years out, but the votes are in for their Olympic and Paralympic mascots. Elementary school children from 16,769 schools cast their votes for one of three mascot design sets to represent the Tokyo 2020 Games with these two plucky characters announced as the winners.

I know what you’re thinking — what are their names? (And what were the names of the characters that didn’t make the final cut?) For now, their names remain a mystery as mascot naming will be confirmed at a later date.

What we do have is a glimpse into their personality profiles. The Olympic mascot, disguisable in blue, has been said to be a mix of old-fashioned charms combined with modern innovated vibes. It is extremely athletic with the ability to move anywhere instantaneously and possesses a strong sense of justice. The Paralympic mascot, a standout in hot pink, also possesses special powers including the ability to move things just by looking at them. However it is mostly cool, calm, and collected, with a love for nature that allows it to talk with stones and the wind. The duo may be complete opposites, but together they are good friends and love to cheer on the athletes.

Watch this space as the mascots make their official launch in Summer 2018! Keep up with the duo on Twitter @Tokyo2020, Facebook, and Instagram.
