Beautiful things happen when we all work together, including a global group effort to color the next M&M’S commercial. Ever wanted to see Red switch it up and become pink? How about Yellow embracing lime green? All these colors, and many more, made their way into the latest M&M’S commercial that salutes those individuals that continue to stay home and practice social distancing.
“Digital Coloring Book”
In May 2020, ad agency BBDO announced that the next M&M’S commercial would be completely colored by the fans. Longtime M&M’S enthusiasts could visit the M&M’S coloring book website and color in scenes starring Red and Yellow using a variety of tools provided by the site. The coloring book also acted as a great creative outlet for the millions of people that continued to stay home and practice social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the coloring book website has since shuttered, fans can glimpse how the artwork came together at the M&M’S Facebook page. Once artists completed their masterpiece, they were able to submit to the site for a chance to see their artwork included in the final commercial.

And embrace their timeless Red and Yellow roots.
Stunning colors throughout the spot range from bright jewel tones to soft pastels. Note the attention to coloring in all the Easter egg details in their room. The framed photo on the wall changes to include slogans like “I love Mars” and images of Red and Yellow in their younger years.
Animated by the team at HouseSpecial and directed by Kirk Kelley, the M&M’S spokescandies express their gratitude to everyone that took the time to help color this commercial together.
